A file association with an application determines which application that file opens with when double-clicked in Windows Explorer. Since archives are also files, you may determine which applications they open with when double-clicked in Windows Explorer.
Open the Control Panel. Notice the new item Archive Associations. Open this item to bring up the archive associations editor. There are several tabs on this editor:
Open with Codex: Archive types displayed in this tab will always open with an application from CompreXX mark4.
Open with Other(s): Archive types displayed in this tab open with other archiver applications, such as WinZip, WinRar, or WinAce.
Open with nothing: Archive types displayed in this tab will not open with any application.
The editor also has two buttons which you can use in configuring how archives open:
Always Open with Codex: Select a group of archive types and click this button to make sure that these archive types will always open with an application from CompreXX mark4. If a renegade third party application attempts to own the association of these archive types, you will be warned and be able to prevent the change.
Never Open with Codex: Select a group of archive types and click this button to make sure that these archive types will never open with any application from CompreXX mark4. Use this option if you have archive types you are more comfortable working with in other archiver applications.
